The four properties
How a certificate carries them
What this means for a buyer
‘Audit-ready’ gets used as a marketing adjective, which is unfortunate, because it actually means something specific.
An auditor is not moved by adjectives — they are looking for a small set of structural properties, and either the reduction has them or it does not.
Strip away the marketing and audit-readiness resolves to four properties, each answering a question an auditor will actually ask.
Notice what is not on the list: intent, ambition, or the quality of the story. Audit-readiness is structural. A compelling narrative with none of these properties is not audit-ready; a dull reduction with all four is.
A Carbon Inventory Certificate is built around exactly these properties, with a mechanism behind each rather than an assurance.
